"It was the best birthday ever!" Happy news to hear from a child, but it's also bittersweet. Our wonderful Romanian hosts from Richard Wurmbrand School in Iasi knew from our registration records, that Nazar had a birthday coming up. So, they did everything in their power to make sure it was a very happy birthday indeed! Cake, juice, games, songs and funny photos make celebrating your birthday in a refugee shelter almost bearable.
Today, we also visited the 40 kids and parents we moved to the Village of Hope in Romania. This is actually a plot of land with 6 houses on it. There are house parents in each home, and most families have their own room together. It was great to see and hug so many of the kids, most of whom I had not seen in person since October! Will be glad to see them again, and also go visit a couple of other families who are staying in private homes. Can't wait to get the 17 kids over from Iasi -- just need to move them from one side of Romania to the other! But it's 8 hours with lots of hairpin turns through the mountains! It was even snowing!
Keep praying for our Moms, most of whom are not used to hands-on parenting -- since they allow the orphanage to raise their children. In addition, most of these Moms are heavy smokers & drinkers and they have not had access to those vices for a few weeks. Some of them are coping better than others. One of the houses, has 6 moms and about 20 kids. They are working well as a team -- helping each other with kitchen duties, homework help (for online Ukrainian school) and childcare. We pray that the moms will also be blessed by this time away from their homes in Ukraine. They can teach each other good parenting skills. Pray for continued cooperation as the days go by. Until we get all them out, we will keep evacuating children to safety. Will you help us?
